Some thing has been very heavy on my mind the last few weeks, why does Nintendo get the raw deal from 3rd parties.
There have been a few interesting things that have happened as of late.
Firstly, Soul Caliber 3, we know worldwide SC2 on the Cube was the highest selling version of the game, wether that had to do with Link being in it, is not the issue, what is is the issue is that despite the Cube Version being the highest selling we aren't getting the sequal its going to PS2. Now if Namco try to use the excuse "we did this cause we want to make more money and releasing it on the Cube wouldn't give us the revenue we need", that is absolute shite, Nintendo has let Namco make a Starfox game, a Donkey Konga Game and a Mario Kart Arcade game, with out Nintendo letting Namco use these well known Nintendo frachises Namco would be getting less money, good to see this is the way they pay us back.
Secondly, Godzilla Saves the Earth. The first Godzilla game for this gen (Godzilla Destroy All Monsters) was on the Cube first and then the X-Box, it sold really well on the Cube, more so then on the X-Box, yet despite this the follow up game wasn't released on the Cube, it was released on the X-Box & PS2. Now they may use the excuse we wanted to make this game for online play and we couldn't do this on the Cube, rubbish. As Phanasty Star Online has shown us you can play the Cube Online, its just up to the devolopers to do it themselves not Nintendo. I'm sure Atari could of made something for themselves to use, so you could play all Atari Cube games online, but they didn't. There are other examples of games not coming to Nintendo due to the lack of online, so this isn't just a lone instance.
Thirdly, Star Wars. Now many people may not think much of this, but the Cube didn't get a Star Wars game for the new movie, we didn't even see a port of Lego Star Wars for the Cube (Despite the fact it would fit in with the appernet Kiddy image Nintendo has). Nintendo has one of the best histories with Star Wars Games, from the great Super Star Wars games, to the Rogue Squadron games and everything in between, most if not all have been good games. But now that the new film is out we didn't get a game, gee thanks alot Lucas Arts. An interesting thing I found on the Lucas Arts Website, the Gamecube has now been dumped into the "Other" section with consoles such as the Dreamcast, N64, Machintosh, PLaystation(Linky) now if I didn't know any better, by looking at this I would think that the Cube is a dead console. Far from the truth I would say. Makes you wish Factor 5 hadn't of left us last year dosen't it.
What about Res Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe and the other Capcom games that where meant to be exclusive to the Cube, gee that worked really well for the Cube didn't it.
Now as I see it, the first year or so was good for the Cube, the 3rd parties were to a degree pretty good to us, but the last year or so, things have just gone downhill very quickly, why has this happened, granted the Cube isn't doing the best, but it isn't that far behind the X-Box in terms of Worldwide sales (please Correct me if I'm wrong), so why are we being excluded. As I said alot of devolpers use the excuse of the Cube not being Online. Now if you cast your memory back to the last Gen, it was the fact that the N64 had Cartridge as its format, again an excuse (it does make abit more sense then the online reasoning though), and as I see it next gen will be the same, if the Rev's contoller isn't as good as Nintendo claims it is.
So what happened, why do we as Nintendo fans (and more to the point people like me who only have one of the Current gen of Consoles) seem to be getting the short end of the stick.
